Her headstone appears to have the wrong year of birth. According to her obituary,. she was born circa 1873. It starts out as follows:

"Relatives and friends here were sorry to learn of the death of Mrs. Mattie A Barnes, 80, widow of the late J L Barnes, which occurred July 22 at a hospital in Fort Pierce, Fla."
