Virginia Barnes Carlton age 94 of Okeechobee passed away Thursday, March 14, 2013, in Okeechobee, Florida. She was born September 26, 1918, in Jackson, Georgia.

She married Daniel Stephen Carlton Jr. in 1934 and enjoyed her family, traveling and volunteering at Raulerson Hospital.

She is preceded in death by her husband Daniel Stephen Carlton Jr.; son, Daniel Stephen Carlton III; parents, Luther and Martha Barnes and 12 siblings.

Mrs. Carlton is survived by her daughters; Sally Ayers (Irving) of Okeechobee, Carolyn Carlton Lowe (Mickie Bohlman) of New Orleans, LA; four grandchildren, Kenny, Keith, Christan, and Clint; eight great-grandchildren. In addition, she is survived by her long-time companion, James E. Durrance of Okeechobee.

The family will receive friends on Monday, March 18, 2013, from 12:00 p.m. until service time of 2:00 p.m. in the Buxton-Bass Okeechobee Funeral Home Chapel, 400 N. Parrott Ave. Okeechobee, Fl. Pastor Bruce Simpson will be officiating. Interment will follow in the Carlton family cemetery in Fort Pierce, FL.
