"The LaFayette Sun" - May 17, 1905:

Mrs. Nan James died at the home of her son, Mr. Iulus James, at Lanett, Alabama, May 13, and was buried at the old family burial ground at Shady Dell Sunday at 3 o'clock. A good many friends and relatives were present at the burial services. She was about 85 years of age and was loved and respected by all who knew her. She was a loving and devoted wife and a fond and affectionate mother. She leaves only one brother, Mr. A. J. Burton, of Denver, and one sister, Mrs. Bet Jones, of Texas, out of a large family of brothers and sisters. Only one son survives her to mourn her loss. By a series of losses and misfortunes she lost her home years ago, a home she loved and appreciated so much. She was always hopeful of regaining that home some day. It was a sad coincidence to me to see her laid to rest in sight of that home she loved and where she had lived all ______ life, but I trust and believe she has a home beyond the skies where the wicked cease from troubling and the weary are at rest. May we all meet her in "the sweet beyond" where there is no death, no parting, but all is joy and peace forever.
