STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- Elmer (Tex) Clancy, 87, a retired medical and laboratory technician, World War II veteran, Mason and family man, died Tuesday in Staten Island University Hospital, Ocean Breeze.

Mr. Clancy was born in Erick, Oklahoma, and attended Delhi High School in Delhi, Oklahoma.

A World War II veteran, he served in the U.S. Army from 1944-1947.

He moved to Tompkinsville in the late 1940s and settled in West Brighton in 1998.

Mr. Clancy's career in the medical field spanned 43 years. He worked as a medical technician at the former Staten Island Area Station Hospital, as a biological aide at the former U.S. Marine Hospital and also worked as a laboratory technician at the Wallerstein Company, Elm Park, and at Griffith Labs in Union, N.J.

After leaving the medical field, he worked at U.S. Navy Resale in Fort Wadsworth on the custodial staff. He retired in 1988.

He was a Mason for 60 years and member of both the Richmond and Tompkins lodges.

He also was a member of the Ranger Drill Team, Richmond Forest Square Club and Tall Cedars of Lebanon.

In his younger years, he enjoyed bowling in leagues and was a former coach at PENRO Junior Bowlers at Rab's Country Lanes. He also enjoyed visits to Atlantic City.

Mr. Clancy was especially close to his sister-in-law, Irene.

His wife of 52 years, the former Rose Margarella, died May 30, 1998. He also was preceded in death by his son, Gregory, February 22, 2007.

The funeral service will be Friday at 10 a.m. in the Harmon Home for Funerals, West Brighton Burial will follow in Woodbridge (N.J.) Memorial Gardens.
