On August 2, 1924, a son Russell C. was born in LaGrande Township to Clifford and Minnie (Middleton) Anderson. He attended rural school in LaGrande Township and graduated from Central High School in Alexandria. In 1942 Russell entered the United States military, serving with the Navy during WWII. Following the war, he returned to the Garfield area where he farmed and later worked in construction.
Russell was united in marriage to Viola Kleweno on May 28, 1949 at Alexandria. Four children, Perry, Corliss, Gail and a child who died in infancy were born to the couple. His family was very important to him and he especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. Hunting and visiting with people were other activities he enjoyed. Russell served on the LaGrande Township Board for several years and was a member of Ducks Unlimited, the VFW and American Legion.
Viola passed away in 1975 and Russell died on September 9, 1995 in LaGrande Township where he had made his home with his daughter, Corliss and family. He was 71 years of age.
Surviving him are his son Perry and wife Marcia Anderson of Decker, MI; daughters: Corliss and husband Allen Nelson of Alexandria; Gail Anderson of Garfield; three brothers: Robert, Roland (Alden) and Clinton Anderson all of Garfield; two sisters: Deloris Kvilhaug of Alexandria; Lavonne (Mrs. Clifford) Peterson of Alexandria; grandchildren: Nicole, Heidi, Amanda, Nicole and Patrick.
Funeral services were held September 12, 1995 at St. Luke's Lutheran Church of Garfield with Rev. Dave Gran officiating. Interment was in Kinkead Cemetery with Tony Johnson, Rick Kvilhaug, Robin Kvilhaug, Rallie Kvilhaug, Clifton Peterson, Kendon Anderson and Kevin Anderson serving as pallbearers. Arrangements with Anderson Funeral Home, Alexandria.
