He was married to Telitha Bartels, at Fairfield. Iowa , near which place they resided until 1881, when he with his family moved to Sutherland, Iowa, where he has resided ever since . He was among the early settlers an d endured the hardships of pioneer life. Although not a member of any religious denomination, his sympathy was with the Christian Church.
He is survived by his wife and three children—two sons, Wallace and Charles and one daughter, Mrs. Walter Sewell; and by one brother, James Spurlock, of Kansas; and two sisters, Mrs. Belle Nelson, of Missouri, and Mrs. Caroline Clark, of Wapello Co., and one grandchild, Jennie Sewell.
The funeral services were held in the Church of Christ, Monday afternoon conducted by Rev. Thompson of Jefferson, Iowa. The remains were laid to rest in Waterman cemetery.
