Amy Barker was a birthright member of The Society of Friends. Her parents were Nicholas Barker (1737-1826) and his wife, Hannah Allen (1741-1834). Nicholas Barker arrived in central North Carolina before the 6th of September, 1760, which was the day he was accepted by The Society of Friends as a member. Hannah Allen, a birthright Quaker, arrived in the same area of North Carolina in 1762 with her mother, Phoebe Allen (nee Scarlett), who was a widow. John Allen (1720-1754), Hannah's father, had traveled to North Carolina before 1754 to purchase land but died before the family could make the move. Nicholas Barker and Hannah Allen were married, outside of the traditions of the Society of Friends, likely in 1763 in what was then Orange County, North Carolina (later that location will be known as Randolph County, NC after Randolph Co. is formed in 1779).

On the 21st of July 1785 at Holly Spring Friends meeting house in Randolph County, North Carolina Amy Barker, daughter of Nicholas and Hannah (nee Allen) Barker, became the bride of Charles Cox, the son of Thomas Cox (c1736-1809) and his wife, Sarah Davis (c1737-1813). See her husband's memorial for a list of their children.

PLEASE NOTE: Amy Barker's birth location of Orange County, North Carolina is historically accurate due to the fact that Randolph County was not formed until 1779, however, the Nicholas Barker family did not change locations; the civil designation of their home place changed as newer counties were formed out of the original Orange County.
