Youngest daughter of Alexander "Alex" Helton and Malinda Jane Saylor Helton. She first married Carl Helton and they went on to have 11 children. Carl was a son of James Helton and Deborah Jane Simpson Helton.

After Carl's death in 1948, Laura would go on to remarry to William Denney and they remained together until his death in 1966. Laura died in 1970 and is buried next to Carl in Jacksonburg Cemetery.
