George W had three children with his first wife, Joanna Salisbury Coberly and 13 children with his second wife, Elizabeth McCreary Coberly (1839-1886). Amanda had one son, Samuel Thomas Lawrence (1876-1962) from her marriage to George W Lawrence (1856-1882). George W and Amanda married on Aug. 8, 1886, six months after Elizabeth Coberly died.
On Sept 17, 1905, Loretta married Jesse Columbus Ables, in the Polk County home of S.W. Ailey, Minister of the Gospel. Since Loretta was only 16, her father, George W. Coberly, gave his assent to the marriage. George W died 13 months later.
Loretta and Jesse had two daughters — Lucia Ables, who was born on Oct. 7, 1907, and Jessie May Ables, who was born on Sept 3, 1912. Loretta’s husband, Jesse C. Ables, died of acute TB on May 6, 1913.
On June 24, 1914, Loretta married George Abram Crites, a neighbor. George had lost his first wife, Rosa Morton Crites in 1911.
Loretta and George Crites had three children of their own. Their son George Raymond Crites was born in 1915, and in 1919, they had twin daughters, who both died as infants in 1919.
Loretta and George continued to live in Cliquot, Polk County, Missouri. George was a farmer, and Loretta was a housewife, who raised their son Raymond, and Loretta’s children, Lucia and Jessie Ables. Lucia and Jesse May continued to live with the family until they each married in the mid-1930s.
In 1940, tragedy struck. On January 7, George A. Crites, died while walking home in the snow. Afterward, Loretta lived in Cliquot with her daughter, Lucia Ables Dodge, and Lucia’s husband, Easton Dodge. On Sept. 13, 1940, Lucia died of pneumonia & myocardial degeneration due to toxemia of pregnancy.
On March 9, 1943, Loretta married James H. Buckner, who died on Oct. 26, 1955. James is buried next to his first wife, Maud Manes Buckner (1887-1939), at the Payne Cemetery, Polk, Polk County, Missouri.
At the time of her death, Loretta’s survivors included her son, Raymond Crites, and her daughter, Jesse Ables Polodna. She also had four grandsons, Darrell Crites, Larry Crites, Dwight Crites and Rick Crites, plus one granddaughter Donna Crites Ballard.
