Rachel Manerva Coberly was born December 23, 1853 in Hancock County, Indiana. She was the youngest of three children born to George Washington Coberly (1827 – 1906) and Joanna Salisbury (1827 – 1924). Sometime before 1861, her parents divorced, and Rachel and her two older brothers lived with their mother in Indiana.

Rachel first married John Loy on March 5, 1869 in Hancock County, Indiana. John was a veteran of the Union Army during the Civil War. Together they had two sons, James Ira (1869 – 1948) and William Isaac (1871 – 1945). John passed away on January 12, 1892 at the age of 43.

Rachel married second to Henry Wallsmith on August 17, 1898. They had no children.

Rachel passed away on April 27, 1915 in Jackson Township at the age of 61. Burial took place at Park Cemetery on April 29, 1915.
