Lucia Ables Dodge, who was born on Oct. 9, 1907 in Bolivar, Polk County, Missouri, died on Sept. 13, 1940 at the St. John’s Hospital, Springfield, Missouri. The cause of death was Septic Pneumonia & myocardial degeneration due to toxemia of pregnancy. Lucia was buried at the Salem Cemetery on Sept. 15, 1940.

She was the daughter of Loretta Coberly Ables (1888-1957) and Jesse Columbus Ables, who died in 1913, aged 36 of acute TB.

Lucia’s mother, Loretta Coberly Ables, married George Abram Crites in 1914, and they raised Lucia and her sister, Jessie May Ables (1912-1977), along with Loretta and George’s son, George Raymond Crites (1915-1999). The family lived in Cliquot, Polk County, Missouri.

Lucia lived with the family until she married Eston Dodge in the mid-1930s. Lucia and Eston lived in Bolivar, Polk County, Missouri at the time of her death.

Eston, who served in the US Army during WW II, died in April 1975 in Oklahoma.
