IDAHO FALLS, ID - Carol Neeley Bennett, 87, died March 3, 2006, at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center in Idaho Falls following complications from a fall.
Carol was born January 8, 1919, in a log house in the little farming community of Riverdale, Idaho, ten miles north of Preston, to Orville and Laura Alida Peterson Neeley. She attended school in a two-room schoolhouse through the eighth grade and graduated from high school at the Oneida Stake Academy in Preston.
She married Darrell Bennett on November 29, 1939, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They were divorced 10 years before her death.
During World War II, Darrell was drafted to the Army, and they lived in Texas and California. After the war, they returned to Idaho Falls where they purchased their first home on East Crowley Street.
Carol was employed as a bookkeeper, and worked many years at the old Woolworth store on Park Avenue. In 1973, she and Darrell retired and moved to Island Park, where they made their permanent residence. After fourteen years, they sold their cabin and returned to Idaho Falls.
An active member of the LDS Church, Carol served as counselor in Young Women, teacher in the Sunday School and Primary, and secretary, teacher and counselor in Relief Society. She loved to attend the Temple, and spent many hours there over the last ten years. She was a member of Sand Creek Camp, Daughters of Utah Pioneers, where she served as parliamentarian.
She is survived by [names deleted]. She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Verl Neeley; and a sister, Lella Smith Godfrey.
Funeral Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, March 6, 2006, at Wood Chapel of the Pines, 273 N. Ridge Avenue. The family will visit with friends Monday from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. at Wood Ffuneral Home. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made in Carol's name to the LDS Church Missionary Fund.
