Died, at his residence in this city, Saturday, February 1 st, 1878, Nathan Veatch.

Nathan Veatch was born in Sevier county, east Tennessee, February 7, 1791, and when a young man moved to Harrison county, Indiana, where he married Elizabeth Evans, Dec. 22, 1815. In 1830 he removed with his family to Fulton county, Illinois, residing there until 1866, when he came to Missouri.

Mr. Veatch served as a soldier during the war of 1812, for which he received a pension from the government up to the day of his death. He raised a large family of children, all of whom survive him, with one exception. His wife died in 1875.

Grandfather Veatch was greatly esteemed by all who knew him, for his sterling integrity and kind and gentle disposition. He lived past the allotted time of man's existence, and in one more week would have reached his 88th birthday. His mind retained its faculties until a few days before his death, and when the summons of the Master came he was ready.

He was followed to the grave by his children to the third generation.

"We keep his memory green."
