Leah L. Howes, 87, died early Sunday at a local rest home following an illness.
She was born September 21, 1889 at American Fork, Utah to Heber and Ann Eldredge Hoggard and attended schools at American Fork.
On June 21, 1908 she married C.R. Howes at Provo, Utah. The Marriage was solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple in 1927. They made their home in Canada and at Sugar City, Newdale, Dubois, and Idaho Falls. Mr. Howes died March 18, 1967. Since 1970 Mrs. Howes had lived in Pocatello.
She was a member of the LDS Church, taught in Sunday School and held other positions. She was a member of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers, a former member of the American Legion Auxiliary and had been active in PTA. She enjoyed sewing, reading, and the out-of-doors and had been a midwife.
Survivors include two sons, Boyd H. Howes of Pocatello and Garth N. Howes of Las Vegas, Nevada; three daughters, Mrs. Judy Isley of Pocatello, Mrs. LaRene Weinert of Encino, California, and Mrs. Lyle Ann Chapman of Orange, California; a brother, Wilburn Hoggard of American Fork, Utah; 12 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren. Two sons, a daughter, two brothers, and a sister preceded her in death.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Manning Funeral Chapel. Burial will be in Teton Cemetery.
