Karl Lind, 84, of Hanford, Calif., died Monday, Nov. 21, at his home.

He was born Feb. 23, 1921, at home in Windsor, the fourth of 14 children born to Jacob and Katherine (Stoll) Lind.

He worked with his brothers and sisters in the sugar beet fields in northern Colorado. He liked to trim trees and prune fruit trees. He loved to garden and started fruit trees and give to relatives and friends.

Drafted into the Army during World War II, Mr. Lind was assigned to the Signal Corps in South Africa, where he installed telephone and power poles and communication lines.

He was fond of recounting the boyhood stories of working in the fields and the two years he spent in Africa.

After his discharge from the Army, he married Lois Spence in Denver. They lived in Denver and Mr. Lind worked for Western Electric Co. as an installer. He retired after 27 years of service. He was proud to be a pioneer.

After his retirement, he collected antiques and frequented pawnshops and flea markets in Denver. He and his wife traveled to world fairs, Hawaii and Mexico. He enjoyed family gatherings.

The Linds moved to Hanford in 2000 for health reasons and to be close to their daughter and her family. Mr. Lind attended Glad Tidings Church in Hanford and enjoyed friends and fellowship of the 50-plus club.

Survivors are his wife of 55 years; a daughter and son-in-law; and two grandsons.

Also surviving are three sisters, Irene Dietz of Denver, Ruth Propp and husband Charles of Fort Collins and Wilma Winter and husband Jack of Ault; five brothers, Albert Lind of Fort Collins, Paul Lind and wife Shirley of Greeley, Robert Lind and wife Donna and Elmer Lind, all of Windsor, and Bill Lind and wife Joan of Colorado Springs; and many nieces and nephews.

His parents; two brothers, Reuben and Ben Lind; and three sisters, Katheryn Ehlert, Leah Lebsack and Mary Miller, preceded him in death.

Memorial services were at Glad Tidings Church in Hanford.

A celebration of life was Nov. 30 at Olinger Chapel Hill Mortuary in Littleton. Interment was in Chapel Hill Cemetery, Littleton.
