"Jack", 84, of Oakdale, entered eternal rest on Monday, January 5, 2015 in his residence. He was born February 3, 1930 in Oakdale to the union of Ellis Elmer Bond and Amy Hebert Bond. He was humbly blessed to serve at Mt. Hope Baptist Church as a deacon, Sunday School Teacher, a musician and former training union director. Jack was a veteran of the Korean Conflict, recipient of the Purple Heart, Silver Star, and Gold Star for his medic service and dedication to his country. Mr. Bond was employed by Newport for 20 plus years, and then S & R automotive as a parts clerk, also worked at Gibson's automotive, later was employed at Home Sweet Home.
Born LeRoy Bond, with no middle name. He always hated the name LeRoy and legally had it changed to Roy when he was older.
He is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Charles Raymond Bond; three sisters, Naomi Hazel Turner, Dorothy Faye Ardoin, and Catherine Prestwood.
He leaves behind his loving family to cherish his memories, his wife of 61 years, Myrtis Elma Marsh Bond of Oakdale; two sons, Dennis Alan Bond of Bond and Danny L. Bond of Elton; three daughters, Ellen Dianne Bonin of Bond, Joyce Ann Paul of Bond, and Sheila Marie Little of Pensacola, Florida; brother, Robert Bond of Bond; sister, Yvonne Reed of Bond; 13 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren; and a host of family and friends.
Pallbearers to serve will be William Joseph Bond, James Robert Bond, Mark Ellis Reed, Calvin Ray Sylestine, Jim E. Prestwood, Thomas Roy Prestwood and Philip Lamar Reed.
Visitation will begin Tuesday, January 6, 2015 from 10 a.m. until service time in the church on Wednesday, January 7, 2015 at 2 p.m.
