OLD SOLDIER RESPONDS TO LAST ROLL CALL

Irvin H. Bonner, aged 86 years, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. James E. Sneed, in Teague, Monday, following a short period of declining health. Burial was in the Fairfield cemetery Tuesday afternoon, the Rev. J. Walter Simpson, pastor of Stewards Mill Presbyterian Church, conducting services.
Mr. Bonner was born in Alabama, coming to Texas in 1852, with his parents, the family locating in the Stewards Mill community, where Mr. Bonner lived until he moved to Fairfield a number of years ago to assume duties as County Tax Collector. Later he made him [sic, his] home with his daughter in Teague.
Mr. Bonner is the last of a family of seven children. He is survived [by] his
daughter, Mrs. Sneed of Teague, and Mrs. E. Bonner of Camden, Ala.
He was an ex-Confederate, a true son of the Old South, and he possessed the genuine sterling qualities of the old Southerners that distinguished them as gentlemen and princes of the earth. His exceptional qualities, honest[l]y,
integrity, gentleness and kindness secured for him the love and admiration of our entire citizenship.
