James Weldon Poe was born August 28, 1933 in Flat, TX to Benjamin Poe and Zona Mae Holcomb Poe. God called him home on December 30, 2014. James served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He graduated from Connors State College and Northeastern State University. He received an MBA from the University of Arkansas. He married Peggy Joyce Connelly in 1956 and they had a son, Michael Weldon Poe. James lost her to cancer in 1957. He later married Margaret Evans Poe in 1958 and James and Mike had a new family. Two daughters: Linda Sue Poe Roth and Dee Ann Poe Clary were born and their family was complete. Margaret passed away in 2012. After working at several jobs, he and Margaret purchased Dick’s Grill on Grand Lake. They owned and operated the restaurant for many years before retiring to Muskogee. After Margaret’s passing, James enjoyed church, gardening, coffee with the guys, and walking the mall. James passed away at St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa following a short illness.. He was welcomed to his eternal home by Margaret, no doubt in a pink robe, his children: Mike, Linda and Dee Ann, granddaughter Joy Clary, his parents, four brothers and two sisters.
