Eloise Miller, 100, of Kearney died Wednesday, January 22, 2015 at the Good Samaritan Society – St. Luke’s.

Funeral services will be 2:30 P.M., Wednesday, January 28, 2015 at the Family of Christ Lutheran Church in Kearney with the Reverend John Gosswein officiating.

Inurnment will be 3:00 P.M., Thursday in the Davenport Community Cemetery, followed by a time of sharing and celebration at the Christ Lutheran Church in Davenport, NE, at 3:30 P.M.

Memorials are suggested to the Family of Christ Lutheran Church in Kearney or the Davenport Community Foundation.

Eloise, daughter of Walter and Olive (Berkey) Bates, was born May 30, 1914, in Davenport, NE. She was one of 6 children born to her parents. Our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ took Eloise home on January 22, 2015 from St. Luke’s Home in Kearney at the age of 100 years, 8 months and 23 days.

Eloise graduated from Carleton High School in 1931. She was united in marriage to Don W. Miller on July 15, 1933. They were blessed with four children: Marian Kotas, Don R. Miller, Jerry Miller and Jane Kotsiopulos.

She raised her family on the farm in Davenport where she was a member of Christ Lutheran Church. She also was a member of the Davenport Women’s Club, Eastern Star and Nuckolls County Extension Club. Eloise enjoyed playing bridge, bible study, gardening and canning, needle work and volunteering at her church and in her community.

After her husband Don passed away in 1984, Eloise moved to Kearney to be near her daughters. Eloise was active in First Lutheran Church, PEO, and volunteered for the Museum of Nebraska Art and hosted an early morning bible study in her home for years. She also continued to enjoy playing bridge, winning the first tournament she entered. Hosting all the family gatherings was her joy. She loved her family and enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Later in life she joined the Family of Christ Lutheran Church in Kearney.
We will always remember Mother’s servant heart and her joyful spirit in all circumstances.

She is survived by her children: Marian Kotas and husband Delbert of Kearney; Don R Miller and wife, Sharilyn, of Upland, NE; Jerry Miller and wife Cheryl of York; Jane Kotsiopulos and husband Peter of Kearney; 10 grandchildren, Donald Miller and wife Jennifer of Minden; William Miller and wife Lisa of upland, Darren Kotas of Kearney; James Miller and wife Gina of Minden; Lindsey Smith and husband Kent of Denver, CO; Carter Kotas and wife Diana of Aurora, NE; Kara Steffen and husband Lance of Kearney; Barton Miller and fiancé Tanya Bateman of Denver, CO; Julia Hernandez and husband, Adrian of LaVista, NE; Liza Olson and husband Ryan of Denver, CO; 21 great-grandchildren and
12 great-great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by, her husband, Don; three brothers: Robert Bates, Duane Bates, Walter Bates; two sisters Dorothy Lyons, Marian Bates; and her great-grandson Dylan Miller.
