Wanda M. Meeks, 88, of Parkersburg, passed away Jan. 20, 2010, at the Good Samaritan Hospital in West Palm Beach, Fla.

She was born in Roane County, W.Va., a daughter of the late John and Marietta Summerfield Slack.

Wanda retired from the Bureau of Public Debt after 24 years. She enjoyed sports and was an avid West Virginia fan. Wanda was instrumental in forming a card group during World War II and was active throughout the years, being the last surviving member of the original group. She enjoyed traveling, spending winters in Florida where she played cards twice a week with her friends. She was a member of the Ladies Shrine, Eastern Star and Stout United Methodist Church.

Wanda is survived by her sons, B.J. Meeks of Wellington, Fla., Robert F. Meeks of Parkersburg; two grandchildren, Russell Meeks, Chad Meeks; two great-grandchildren, Travis W. Meeks and Lillian Pyles; and one brother, Alfred Slack of Elizabeth.

In addition to her parents, Wanda was preceded in death by her husband, Robert A. Meeks; two brothers, Brooks and Austin Slack; five sisters, Alma Fletcher, Ada Wilson, Hazel Moore, Edrpha Amos and Hallie Henking.

The funeral service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Leavitt Funeral Home, Parkersburg, with Rev. Scott Sears officiating. Burial will be at Parkersburg Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. on Saturday and prior to the services on Sunday.
