In 1943, in Evansville, MN, she was united in marriage to Lloyd Hokanson, also of Urness Township, and together they farmed the Hokanson home place until 1968 when they moved into Evansville and their son took over the home farm. In 2008 they moved to the Evansville Senior Living apartments.

Mayme's interests included sewing, quilting, cake decorating, swimming, flowers and gardening, especially her strawberries patches. She very much loved to spend time with her grandchildren and enjoyed watching birds and other animals.
