Aune moved to California in 1942 and made her home at San Diego where she met Mr. Ford Thornton. They were married on February 14, 1943 in Minneapolis. They were active members in their church and enjoyed traveling in California and the west coast states. Aune had a special interest in jewelry and enjoyed raising flowers. She was employed by the Purdey Company for many years before her retirement. Her husband, Ford, became ill and she cared for him until his death in 1993.
