Doris Cato Phillips Smith, 62, of Sumiton died Friday, Aug. 17, 2001, at Carraway Methodist Medical Center.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m., Monday, Aug. 20, 2001, at the New Horizon Memorial Chapel with burial in New Horizon Memorial Gardens in Dora. Revs. Charles Underwood and Doug Tate will officiate. New Horizon Funeral Home will direct.

Visitation will be from 6-9 p.m. tonight, Aug. 19, 2001, in the parlor at the funeral home.

She was the retired branch manager of the Sumiton branch of Compass Bank and a member of Sumiton Baptist Church.

She is survived by her husband, Donny M. Smith; three daughters, Lisa Phillips Thrasher and her husband, Greg, of Sumiton, Teresa Phillips Burchfield and her husband, Vann, of McCalla and Cathy Phillips Browning and her husband, Brian, of Empire; a step-daughter, Joanna Calloway and her husband, Johnny, of Empire; two step-sons, Mark Smith and Daniel Smith and his wife, Vanessa, both of Empire; four sisters, Maebelle Smith of Crosston, Edna Patterson of Majestic, Lorene McCreless of Morris and Patricia Wheeler of Tarrant; three brothers, Johnny Cato of Gardendale, Joe Cato of Tarrant and Curtis Cato of Morris; eight grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
