He was born in Licolnton, GA to the late Clyde Allen Lawton and Sara Jane Lawton.
Mr. Lawton was a retired Staff Sergeant of the U. S. Air Force. He began his military career serving in the U.S. Army for three years and later joining the U.S. Air Force for the remainder of his career. He had multiple assignments all over the world and retired from the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, CO in 1970. After retirement he moved to Waycross and enjoyed doing paint and body work on vehicles.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one sister, Gladys Inglett; four brothers, Luke Lawton, Wes Lawton, Guy Lawton and Ross Lawton.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Julia M. Lawton of Waycross; two children, Karen Boyd and her husband Michael of Waycross and Michael Lawton and his wife Valerie of Waycross; six grandchildren, Tech Sgt. Brandon Boyd and his wife Maria of Destin, FL, Nikki Hartzog and her husband Claude of Barnwell, SC, Blake Boyd and his wife Leslie of Waycross, Hope DuBose and her husband Drew of Atlanta, GA, Kyle Lawton of Waycross and Brett Boyd of Waycross; three great-grandchildren, Alexis, Levi and Kameren; one sister, Thelma Cox and her husband Truman of Lincolnton, GA; several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
A funeral service will be held Friday morning at 11 am at the Miles-Odum Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at Oakland Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6 – 8 pm at the funeral home.
