J. Calvin Thornburg, 92, a longtime Decatur County resident and retired farmer, died Monday morning at Decatur County Memorial Hospital after being in failing health for the past few months.

Born August 28, 1883, in Shelby County, he was the son of William and Harriet Thornburg.

Mr. Thornburg was recognized by the Decatur County Agriculture Extension Service for his outstanding service and was a past president of the Indiana Cattle Feeders Association. He was a member of the Liberty Baptist Church and the Knights of Pythias for over 50 years.

He was married to Alma Wright December 15, 1904 in Decatur County and she survives.

He is also survived by one son, Merritt Thornburg, Greensburg; and one daughter, Mrs. Richard (Mary Ruth) Bevington, Cincinnati; eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one sister, Mrs. Roxanne Eward.

Funeral arrangements are pending at the Gilliland-Howe Funeral Home.

Funeral services for J. Calvin Thornburg, 92, retired farmer of R.R.5, Greensburg who died Monday, will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Gilliland-Howe Funeral Home.

The Rev. Stuart Northrup, pastor of Liberty Baptist Church, and Rev. Harry F. Cooke, pastor of Liberty Baptist Church, and Rev. Harry F. Cooke, pastor of Mt. Moriah Baptist Church, will officiate. Burial will be in South Park Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 4 p.m. Tuesday.

The family has requested that memorials be in the form of contributions to the Liberty Baptist Church or the donor's favorite charity.
