CARL SWANGO, 38, BARBER, IS DEAD

Well Known Local World War Veteran Succumbed to Heart Ailment Today

FULL MILITARY SERVICES

Lewis Carl Swango, aged 38, widely known local barber and World War veteran, died at 1:00 o'clock this morning at his home at 464 West Mechanic Street following several months illness. He had been confined to his home with heart trouble for the past three weeks but the seriousness of his condition was not generally known and his death is a great shock to hundreds of friends.

Mr. Swango had owned and operated the Strand barber shop for the past several years and had been in that business here for almost twenty years. He served in the infantry during the World War and while in service contracted influenza that developed into rheumatism. It is believed that the illness contracted during his overseas duty led to his death.

His death occurred less than a month after the death of Lee Hendricks, who had been a barber in Mr. Swango's shop since it was established.

He was a member of Victory Post No. 70 of the American Legion and full military services will be held. He was also a member of the First Baptist Church.

The son of James and Daisy Swango, he was born at Boggstown on April 10, 1897. He was married to Miss Bessie McGinnis, of Louisville, KY, in 1918 and to this union six children were born, five of whom survive.

The children are Carl Robert, {born and died in 1919 after surgery}the oldest; Dorothy Elizabeth, Doris Fay, Lewis Carl Jr., and Jimmy Rex, all at home. He is also survived by the parents, who live near Morristown, and the widow.

The military rites will be held at the late home at 10:30 o'clock Saturday morning. Dr. A.E. Cowley will officiate. Burial will be in Forest Hill cemetery charge of Loren H. Murphy, funeral director.

NOTE: Carl Robert died as an infant, in Louisville KY after surgery. This is one very big mistake in this obituary. Lewis Carl Swango is the grandfather of the maintaining contributor's family.
