She was born July 4, 1930 in Leighton, Iowa, the daughter of John C. and Jozena De Jong Den Hartog. She graduated from Pella High School in 1948 and attended Central College in Pella, Iowa where she received her bachelor’s degree.
On Sept. 18, 1953 she married Kenneth Glewen in Leighton, Iowa. The couple lived in Jewel, Iowa and Tama, Iowa until 1956. She taught school in Orange City, Iowa; Jewel, Iowa; and Toledo, Iowa. In 1956, the couple moved to Watertown, Wis.
In 1959 they moved to Lodi, Wis. where they resided until 1966. They then moved to New Glarus until 1971. In 1971 they moved to Cedar Grove. While in Cedar Grove, she was employed at Cedar Grove Public Library. In 2000 they moved to Waupun and in 2003 they moved to Randolph.
Betty was a Sunday school teacher, vacation Bible school teacher; Bible class instructor; and pianist for many years. She was also a Cub Scout Leader and a member of Trinity Reformed Church in Waupun.
Survivors include her husband, Ken Glewen of Randolph; one daughter, Carla Glewen and her husband, David Kuester of Madison; two sons, Chris (Kathy) Glewen of Searcy, Ark. and Eric (Amy) Glewen of Sheboygan; one brother, Raymond (Jean) Den Hartog of Clear Lake, Iowa; and five grandchildren, Lindsay, Emily, Logan, Jacob and Megan Glewen.
