William, at the age of 23, enlisted 1813 for military service as a private in Capt. Campbell's 24th Regiment, U.S. Infantry during the War of 1812. He was wounded at the Battle of Horseshoe in Creek Nation...per Brown.
In March 1818, after the death of his father, he moved to Illinois after receiving a bounty land grant in Gallatin Co. They returned to Equality, Gallatin County on Nov. 10th, 1829 and lived there until his death, Nov. 24, 1835. He is believed to be buried at the Old Abney Cemetery, Saline Co. and Amelia died about the same time. His brother, Abner Abney was named administrator of his estate. The Ole Abney Cemetery was on Abner Abney's Farm....from Don Abney book.
