D. S. Lewis Retired Oil Official, Dies
Funeral services for David Sloan Lewis, who died yesterday at the Columbia hospital, will be held tomorrow morning at 11 o'clock at Trinity Episcopal church, conducted by the rector the Rev. George M. Alexander.
Interment will he in The Hill cemetery in Augusta, Ga.
Known to his friends as Dick, he was born at Pendleton, the son of John Earl and Anna Smith Lewis. Hie lived in Charleston for many years and moved to Columbia in 1233. Mr Lewis was a retired assistant division manager of the Standard Oil company and worked for that company for 25 years before being retired on October 23, 1948.
He was educated in the Pendleton schools and Clemson college, which was built on part of his family's plantation.
He was a member of the Trinity Episcopal church, the Columbia club, St. John's Hunt club of Charleston, of the Society of Colonial Wars, of the St. Cecelia society of Charleston and at one time he was mayor pro-tem of Charleston.
Mr Lewis is survived by his widow, Mrs. Ruben Walton Lewis; one daughter, Mrs. James Derrin, Jr.,of Jersey City, N.J.; two sons, David S. Lewis, Jr., of Ferguson, Mo., and John E. Lewis of Albany, Ga.; eight grandchildren; five sisters, Mrs. Lescune Meegan of Myrtle Beach, Mrs. Susan Lewis Brown, Mrs. Edward Luther and Miss Selina Lewis, all of Tryon, N.C., and Miss Mary Lewis of Cornelia, Ga.; one brother, Richard Lewis of Atlanta Ga.
