Elmira Josephine was born to Yelly/Early Bolen and his wife Lucy Sanders on November 25, 1835 according to a family bible.

On the 1850 Census she is listed as Almira J and is living with her family in Giles County, Tennessee. Shortly after that Census, her family moved to Stone County, Missouri, where both her parents would die within a few years of each other before 1860.

On the 1860 Census, Elmira is married to Dr. Oscar Rogers and they're living in Elk River Twp, Missouri. Elmira has two children, Alice Gray, age 6 (# 15833078), and Joseph R, age 2 (# 21427638). Also living with Elmira and her family are John Rogers, age 21, born in Georgia like her husband, and Elmira's brother Henry (William Henry), age 20 who's helping out on the family farm.

At the same time he was married to Elmira, Oscar had a 2nd wife, Queen McDade. Did Elmira know about her before she married Oscar? Elmira had one more child with Oscar, little Oscar Rogers, who apparently lived from 1860-1864.

By the 1870 Census, Elmira J. Rogers was sharing a house with her future husband, Charles Sack, a wagon maker who had emigrated to America from Bavaria. Elmira is listed as the head of the household, owning $300 worth of real estate and $100 worth of personal property, something that very few women had recorded about them on the Censuses back then. Elmira and Charles are living in Lebanon, Missouri.

The 1880 Census shows that Charles & Elmira are now married, and have adopted a 5 year old son named Ernest. They are still living in Lebanon which is where they will remain for the rest of their lives.

According to the 1900 Census, Elmira was born in September, not November. By the 1910 Census, Ernest is gone, having died in 1930. Charles and then Elmira will both be gone before the 1920 Census.
