Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, November 5, 2014, at the Geo. M. Wittich-Lewis Home for Funeral and Cremation Services, Muscatine. Burial will be in Muscatine Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 4, 2014, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., at the funeral home. A memorial fund has been established at the funeral home in memory of Lois.
Lois Bernice Birkhofer was born on August 8, 1922, in Moscow, Iowa, the daughter of John and Grace (Lincoln) Birkhofer. On February 26, 1941, Lois was united in marriage to Denzil “D. J.” Coram. They lived on the farm south of Moscow in their early years of marriage for 25 years. Lois owned and operated the Dairy Queen in Wilton for three years and then managed Montgomery Ward’s Restaurant for eight years and HON’s Restaurant for four years. She was a member of the Eagles and Ladies of the Moose and enjoyed dancing, playing cards and was known as an accomplished cook, especially homemade pies.
Surviving are one son, William L. Coram of Muscatine; one daughter, Phyllis A. Hopkins of Moscow; six grandchildren, Debbie Rasmussen and husband, Russ, Sherri Swenson and husband, Ken, Laurie Proctor, Heidi Coram and partner, Dominque De Leon, Nicholas Coram and wife, Melissa and Jamie Hopkins and wife, Mary; 20 great-grandchildren, Tyler, Trent, Kevin, Krista, Kelly, Katie, Kayla, Amanda, Ben, Alex, Drew, Ashely, Ryan, Allie, Olivia, Mason, Brandt, Fletcher, Cooper and Addison; one sister, Norma Chambliss of Wilton; and one brother, Nevin Birkhofer and wife, Frances, of Muscatine.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Denzil on April 30, 2000, one son, Wayne L. Coram, one great-granddaughter, Abby Hopkins, one sister, Dorothy Smull and husband, Willard, one brother, John “Bud” Birkhofer and wife, Elizabeth, two brothers-in-law, Gerald Chambliss and Oren Coram and wife, Doris and three sisters-in-law, Garnett Moffit and husband, Howard, Nyla Stephenson and husband, Bill and Eva Johnson.
