Onzie Beattie Hensley age 93, passed away on Friday October 31, 2014 at Hospice in Reidsville. Born in Cleveland County on October 22, 1921 she was the daughter of the late Robert Christopher and Luna Pearl Smith Beattie. She was a devoted wife, mother, loving grandmother and great-grandmother. Onzie had a passion for bowling and participated in the sport for over 40 years. She served on the local and state boards and was a 2006 inductee into the Gaston-Lincoln Bowling Hall of Fame as well as a 2014 inductee into the North Carolina State Hall of Fame for her Meritorious Service. Onzie was also an avid reader, loved to travel, and spend time with her family and friends. In addition to her parents, Onzie was preceded in death by her husband Arnold Hensley; five brothers; Wilburn Beattie, Belvin Beattie, Billy Beattie, Hubert Beattie, and David Beattie; five sisters, Verta Lee Beattie, Marion Fimble, Joann Parker, Colleen Beattie, and Nadine Lovelace.
Onzie is survived by step son, Doug Hensley and wife Cindy, of Bartlett, TN; former daughter in law Betty Bowman and husband Danny, of Stoneville; grandchildren, Ronda Holcomb and husband Steve, of Stoneville; Douglas Hensley and wife Kathy, of Mayodan, Alan Hensley and wife Dana, of Madison; great-grandchildren, Casey Drake (Chris), Chad Holcomb (Autumn), Britni Holcomb, Brooke Hensley, D.J. Hensley, Madelyn Hensley, and Sophie Hensley; as well as many special nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held on Monday November 3, 2014 at 2:00 pm in the chapel of Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home and Crematory with Pastor William "Bill" Troutman officiating. Interment will follow in the Cleveland Memorial Park. The family will receive friends an hour before the service from 1:00pm until 2:00 pm.
