Son of David D. Courtney and Elizabeth (Brubaker) Courtney.
According to the 1910 federal census, Charles married Pennsylvania native, Annie Minnich, in 1894. Their first child, Gertrude M. Courtney (later Mrs. Arthur F. Moore) was born in Reading, Berks County, Pennsylvania on 28 February 1895.
Their son, Charles Francis Courtney, Jr., followed on 14 September 1900. Daughter, Helen E. Courtney, arrived on 29 July 1903. A second son arrived on 28 September 1904, but apparently died before 1910 because he is not shown on the 1910 census.
According to relatives and friends of the Courtney family, their daughter, Helen, was a survivor of polio, which she contracted in her elementary school years.
Charles Francis Courtney, Sr. passed away from heart disease on 12 May 1926. He was interred at the Laureldale Cemetery. His daughter, Helen, and his wife, Annie, were interred at Laureldale Cemetery, following their deaths in the 1950s.
