Nellie Briles was born on September 17, 1918 the daughter of Jake H. and Lizzie (Schlicht) Williams in Walnut, Iowa. She grew up in the area and attended school attended country school. At 20 years of age, Nellie was married to Eugene Winger. A daughter Shirley and a son Melvin were born to their marriage of twelve years. On January 5, 1948 she was married to Raymond "Ray&" L. Briles, and the family grew with the births of a daughter Donna and their son Dennis. The couple also raised their nephew, Gary Winchester, from the age of 13. Ray passed away, in 1988, following a battle with leukemia. On October 14, 1995 Nellie married David Lightle of Griswold, Iowa where they lived their married life. The couple moved to Atlantic where they lived for the past one and a half years. She will be remembered for her love of making afghans for the family, working puzzles and enjoying her needlework. She was a member of the First Assembly of God in Atlantic. Nellie loved the Lord and was a very loving and giving person. She gave of herself to anyone who had a need.
She was preceded in death by her husband Ray Briles; her daughter Shirley Anderson; her nephew Gary Winchester; her parents; and five sisters, Maggie Alff, Lucille Marxen, Annie Osborne, Lena Hendrix and Bertha Winchester; and brothers, Henry "Booty&" Williams, John "Pat&" Williams and Dane Williams; and son-in-law Phillip Wendell Anderson, Sr
