Benjamin Harrison Bond, born October 15, 1892, was the eldest of 10 children born to Charles Edward Bond and Ada (Dunbar) Poore. He was born in Staunton Illinois. His father was a farmer, and as a youth, Ben worked as a farm laborer.

His siblings were Leanora R Lela, Alpina E, Claude, Thera, Katie, Julia, Tilden, Edward and Nelson Bond.

He was in the United States Army, Co. 1, 1st Gas Regiment, during World War 1, serving with rank of Private 1st Class. His rank at the end of the war was Sergeant.

After the war, while living at the International Hotel in Wood River, Illinois, he met and married the hotel's assistant housekeeper, Lottie Ann (Starkweather) McClary Evans, who was living at the hotel, too, with her young daughter. They were married in June 1925.

He had a long career with Shell Oil Company. During his years with Shell, he and Lottie lived in Illinois, Kansas and Louisiana as he was transferred by the company to its various facilities. He retired around 1950.

Ben and Lottie then moved to a farm near Greenville, Bond County, Illinois, where some of Ben's family lived. They raised crops and had pigs, goats and cows on the farm, enjoying life there until Ben grew too ill to work it.

They then moved to Lottie's daughter's home in Hazlewood, Missouri, so that Ben could be treated in St. Louis for colon cancer. He died in hospital on December 22, 1958. Lottie applied for a military headstone for his grave.
She remained living with her daughter until her own death in 1960.
