Verna had a mothering nature and spent her adult working life as a nanny caring for many children in the Selkirk area.

She moved to the Red River Manor on Eaton Ave when she was 70 and lived there for 12 years, making many friends. Her last 2 years were at the Red River Place Nursing Home.
