Marie Dennett Horsley, age 89, died Sunday, October 5, 2014. She was born October 13, 1924 in Springdale, Utah. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Malinda Hepworth Dennett, and 8 brothers and sisters, and her husband’s Howard M. Horsley and Raymond P. Johnson. She is survived by daughters, Maureen (VaeDon) Smith, Las Vegas; Linda (Brent) Olenslager, Star Valley Ranch, Wyoming; and Jeanne (Kelly) Warburton, Las Vegas. She is also survived by 16 grandchildren and 53 great grandchildren, and her sister Nellie Prescott, Lawndale, California. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and served in many positions throughout her life.
Marie was a home front veteran during World War II, building bomber and fighter planes at Douglas Aircraft in Santa Monica, Calif. After leaving Douglas Aircraft, she went to work for the Union Pacific Railroad in Cheyenne, Wyoming. She then moved to Caliente, Nevada and continued working for the railroad. She married Howard M. Horsley when he returned from the war and moved to Las Vegas in 1946. After his death in 1985, she married Raymond P. Johnson.
Marie was a Charter member of the World War II Memorial Fund, a former member of the UP Challenger Club, and several Veterans Organizations. She retired after 24 years at Temple Beth Sholom pre-school as secretary and Business Manager.
A viewing will be held in Las Vegas on Friday, October 10th from 6-8 pm, at the LDS Prince and Stewart Chapel. Graveside services will be Saturday, October 11th at 10 am at Davis Cemetery, 6200 So. Eastern Ave. in Las Vegas, Nevada under the direction of Davis Funeral Home. On line condolences can be sent to www.sumortuary.com.
