JOHN MULLEN, SR., OF DOUGHERTY, DIES SUDDENLY

Dougherty, Jan. 31 - John Mullen, Sr., one of the first business men of this city and a resident of this community for many years, dropped dead about 9:30 o'clock this morning in the yard of this home here.

The body was discovered lying midway between the house and the barn, by his wife, who had become alarmed at his absence. Mr. Mullen, who with his sons operated the John Mullen dry goods store here, had gone to the barn to milk, but had evidently been overcome by the attack of heart trouble, and succumbed on the way.

Mr. Mullen was 80 years old. He started the first store in Dougherty when the town was known as Coldwater and has continued in business ever since. His sons assisted him in the management of the store.

No funeral arrangements had been made this morning.

Mr. Mullen is survived by his wife, three sons, John, Jr., James, Robert, and a daughter, Margaret.

The Recorder would add that Mr. Mullen was known well in Greene years before the railroad came, and the town of Dougherty was layed out, coming here for his supplies for the little store on the banks of the Coldwater. Many old friends over this way will regret his passing and extend sympathy to his sorrowing family.
