Charles “Charlie” V. Aiona, Sr., 81, of Hilo, he died on Friday, June 26, 2009 at Hilo Medical Center. He was born on August 1, 1927, in Ookala; he was a retired Crane Operator for Hilo Transportation and Terminal (HT&T) at the Bulk Sugar Plant in Hilo. He also was a World War II Veteran in the US Army and member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hilo.

Friends may call Monday, July 6, 2009 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hilo, Visitation from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.; Mass at 10:30 a.m. Casual attire and burial at Hawaii Veterans Cemetery #2.

He is survived by wife, Clara "Kinuko" Aiona of Hilo; son, Robert "Bobby" Kendrick of Hilo; daughter, Charlene (Kevin) Kubota of Hilo; sisters, Josephine "Fina" (Leroy) Edwards of San Diego, California, Rita (Jack) Branco and Vivian Araujo of Hilo; sisters in-law, Geraldine "Momi-Gerri" (Talau) Aumua and Kay Taosaka of Hilo; Frances Aiona, Satsuko (Ben) Okumura and Irene Balfe of Honolulu; brothers in-law, Nori (Karen) Komatsu of Honolulu and Alexis DeMello of Honokaa; nine grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; Numerous cousins, nephews and nieces.
