SAVANNAH - Betty Calloway Charters, 82, of Savannah, Georgia and widow of Bert Charters, died peacefully Friday evening, August 29, 2014, at her home surrounded by her family. Born in Manassas, Georgia, she was a daughter of the late Raford Randall Calloway and the late Letha Belle Blocker Calloway. Mrs. Charters was an active member of St. Luke United Methodist Church where she was involved in the flower ministry, helped in the nursery, and basically anything that needed to be done. In addition to her husband of 50 years and her parents, she was preceded in death by four sisters, Sue Nell, Vesta, Opal and Jaqualine, and two brothers, Julius and Gary. Surviving are her daughter, Lorelei Charters of Savannah, Georgia; her son, Bill Charters of Augusta, Georgia; two sisters, Ann Green and her husband, Wade, of Fort Mill, South Carolina and Nancy Jordan of Pembroke, Georgia; one brother, Lindell Calloway and his wife, Edna, of Manassas, Georgia, and a number of nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 o'clock Wednesday evening at Gamble Funeral Service - 410 Stephenson Avenue. The funeral service will be held at 11 o'clock Thursday morning at the graveside, Forest Lawn Memory Gardens, conducted by The Reverend E. Madison Morgan, Jr. Remembrances: St. Luke United Methodist Church - 9114 Whitefield Avenue, Savannah, Georgia 31406.
