Andrew Peter Anderson and Christina Elizabeth Greenlund were married in Gnythyttan, Sweden. They left Sweden in 1883 with a relative, Hulda Johnson, and were met at the Stager Lake Depot by Christina's brother, Charles Greenlund, who transported them to Stambaugh by wagon.
They began their first home on 1st St., where Andrew was a carpenter and soon became busy in the building business. He helped erect the Stambaugh Presbyterian Church as one of his projects.
Andrew and Christina had 10 children.
1. Hilma-married John Midtlying in 1890. They had five children-Jennie (Mrs. Fritz Erickson), Mabel (Mrs. Gust Johnson), Edith (Mrs. Raymond DuRoss), Helmer and Wilfred (Putz). John Midtlying was the Stambaugh clerk for several years, was a powder man at the Dober mine and was killed in 1905 while trying to save the powder magazine at the mine.
2. Amanda-married Nels Thornberg. Their children were Rudolph, Jalmer [Hjalmer], Harry, Oscar, Tessie and Amanda.
3. Emil-worked for many years at the Nolingberg Bakery.
4. Oscar-married Hannah Trybom and worked in the local mines. Their children were Agnes, Leonard, Elvina, Ellida, Lester, Lawrence, Oliver, Carl, Alden and Alice.
5. Adolph-was a Baptist minister, married Hannah Renberg and had three children, Reuben, Irving and Edna.
6. Richard-married Edie (Ida) Anderson. He was a contractor and builder in Stambaugh. He had a lumberyard with his partner Oscar Renberg and built many homes in the area. He was the contractor that erected the Stambaugh City Hall, along with Fineman's Dept. Store, the building that is now occupied by Erickson's Drugs, Dorothy's Market and the post office. Richard and I ahead eight children: Oakley, Delma, Lenore, Wilbert, Bernard, Eva, Fern and Clyde.
7. Bert-graduated from the University of Mich. as a Medical Doctor, was married to Bess and had a son Don and daughter Jean. He began his career in Butte, Montana and later established his practice in Fresno, Cal. retiring at the age of 80.
8. August-was a carpenter and was married to Mary Wicklund. They had a son Reuben and a daughter Lenore. Mary worked as a nurse in the City and still resides on 1st St.
9. David-was born in 1885 after Andrew and Christina moved to Stambaugh. He studied Architecture in Chicago and designed the Stambaugh City Hall and many other buildings locally and in the U.P. He and his wife Blanche lived in Marquette.
10. Joseph-was also born in Stambaugh in the year of 1890. He was a carpenter and contractor in California and later in Stambaugh, also had a lumber yard on 3rd St. Joseph was single.
Christina passed away in July of 1918 and Andrew in October of the same year, 1918.
