Russell Deringer, of Ada, Ohio and longtime resident of Billings, passed away in his sleep on the morning of Aug. 5, 2014. Russell was the son of Adabelle (Cantrell) and Ora Deringer.

A celebration of his life will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 23, 2014, West Side Baptist Church, 323 South 32nd St West, Billings.

Russell enjoyed hiking, fishing and hunting in his native Ohio and Montana. He enjoyed gardening and was very proud of his roses. Russell served two years with the US Army, and was stationed in Japan with the First Cavalry, Artillery unit. After serving in the army, Russell studied aircraft maintenance at the Spartan School of Aeronautics in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Russell married Gayle Moore of Alger, Ohio in 1958.

They moved from Ohio to Billings that same year. They had four children, Mark, Natalie, Cole, Lana, and 55 years together.

Russell worked for Lynch Flying Service and Skaggs Drug Store, before spending 24 years working for American Sterilizer Company (AMSCO/STERIS).

During his retirement, he enjoyed being active and working part time as a security officer.

Russell found great satisfaction in volunteering at the Billings Food Bank and the Montana Rescue Mission.

Russell was preceded in death by one child, his parents and four siblings, Audren, Jean, John, and George.

He is survived by his wife, three children, a brother, Glen Deringer in Ohio, and many nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family would request a donation of time or money to the charity of your choice or to the Montana Rescue Mission, PO Box 3232, Billings, MT 59103.
