Death Takes Thalia Man
CROWELL - T.R. (Thornia) Cates, 86, a retired Thalia farmer, died Sunday in a Crowell hospital. Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Tuesday in First Methodist Church of Crowell. Rev. Wilson Holman, Pastor of Thalia Methodist Church; Rev. C.C. Lamb of Tolbert; and Oliver Holland of Thalia, will officiate. Interment will be in Crowell Cemetery under direction of Womack Funeral Home of Crowell. Mr. Cates was born Jan. 20, 1886 in Cooke County, and had resided in Thalia for 56 years. He was a member of Thalia Methodist Church and a former member of Thalia School Board. Surviving are his wife; a son, T.R. Cates Jr.; three daughter, Mrs. Faye Whitman of Thalia, Mrs. Edith Downing of Lubbock, and Miss Oneta Cates of Abilene; a brother, George Cates of Missoula, Mont.; four sister, Mrs. George Mapp and Mrs. Jim Cook, both of Crowell, Mrs. Bertha Schultz of Abilene and Mrs. Ruby Mitchell of Ellenwood, Ga., 15 grandchildren and 28 great grandchildren.
