NED SAYRE COMPTON, 72, of Louisa, KY., loving husband, dad, papaw, brother and friend, went to be with his Savior on Wednesday, February 2, 2011. He was born July 25, 1938, in Louisa, KY, a son of the late W.D. and Laura Vanhorn Compton. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Avis Foley and his brothers, Nick, Glen, Jack, Craig Tyson and Jay. He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Aileen Daniels Compton, three beautiful children, daughter Nedra Compton Fennell and husband Jim of Ashland, KY, son Tyson Compton of Huntington, W. Va., son Tawn Sayre Compton of Nicholasville, Ky., and daughter-in-law Bonita Compton of Lexington, Ky., three wonderful grandchildren, Joshua Ned Compton and wife Rachel, James Jansen Fennell and wife Megan, and Sayre Compton, and very special great-granddaughter, Anna Aileen Compton; sisters Corlis Barnett, Fern Short and Maris Lucas of Louisa, Ky, Joy McComas and Janis (Ray) Hayes of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Iris Freelander of Long Beach, Calif.; brother Dave (Kathy) Compton of Louisa, Ky.; many nieces and nephews and a host of friends. Ned was retired from Huntington (IBCO) Alloys in 1989, and from Lawrence County Fiscal Court in 2009. A rancher and cattleman, Ned was a true cowboy, finding one of life's greatest pleasures in horseback riding. He was a member of Apperson #195 Masonic Lodge, Louisa IOOF Lodge #270, a member of Beef Cattle Association, Lawrence County Saddle Club, President of Lawrence County Farm Bureau Board, and former member of Lawrence County Extension Board. He was a member of Louisa United Methodist Church, where he served on the finance committee. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, February 5, 2011, at Louisa United Methodist Church, with Rev. Guy Moyer and Rev. Kenneth Jett officiating. Burial will follow at the Compton Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 pm. Friday at Young Funeral Home, Louisa. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Louisa United Methodist Church Building Fund or Ashland Community Hospice.
