OBITUARY

Dwight Roquet, 88, passed away Friday, August 15, 2014 at Mercy Hospice, in Johnston.Dwight was born in 1926 to Earl and Verna Roquet in Des Moines, Iowa. He was a life long resident of Des Moines, attended East High School, and Iowa State University.

Dwight's employment years consisted of working as a surveyor, machinist, cabinet maker, carpenter, and builder. He founded, owned, and operated Precision Builders, Inc. whose motto was "We please the hard to please". He was recognized by the Homebuilders Association for excellence in residential construction. He will be remembered as a highly skilled, quality driven, residential building contractor in the Des Moines Metro area.

Dwight entered military service one day after high school graduation and was proud to serve his country in the Army Air Corps on the island of Guam in the "Pacific Theater" of World War II. He was a member of the Homebuilders Association, Des Moines Woodworkers, a Dale Carnegie alumni, Za-Ga-Zig Shrine, Elks Lodge, and an active member of the East High Alumni.

Dwight was a long time member (deacon, elder, board member) of Glen Echo Christian Church.Dwight was truly a 'jack of all trades' and a master of most. He gravitated toward projects that required his engineering, machinist, mechanical, building, and woodworking skills. He enjoyed driving his pristine 1972 flatbed truck in the Beaverdale Fall Festival parade, woodworking, gardening, traveling, boating and spending time with his family and friends.

Dwight is survived by his wife Ione Runyon Roquet, 1 son and 2 daughters. He was preceded in death by his son, Greg.

The family would like to thank the staff at Mercy Hospice, in Johnston and many special friends for their support. In agreement with Dwight's wishes, memorial contributions may be made to Glen Echo Christian Church.

6th great grandson of Abraham Wellman 1643-1715 and Elizabeth Cogswell Wellman, both who famously testified in the Salem Witch Trials against Sarah Cole and whose court testimony can be read on their memorials.

5th great grandson of Abraham Wellman 1673-1745, who sigend on with General Pepperill, for an expedition to Nova Scotia as a mechanic and was never heard from again. His sons always stated throughout their lives that he died in tht French war during the seige of Louisburg sometime after June of 1745, most likely around Oct 26, 1745.

4th great grandson of Revolutionary War Veteran Capt. Jacob Wellman and Jenny Jane Johnson

3th great grandson of Revolutionary War Veterans Thomas Axtell and wife Rebecca French and Abraham Wellman and wife Rebecca Pearson.
