Death of J. M. Moore.
Jas. M. Moore, formerly a well-known citizen of Union City, died last Sunday morning, June 16, 1912, after a short illness from fever.

Mr. Moore was a native of Maury County, and coming to West Tennessee, located with his parents at Glass in 1870. There he studied law after a course of study in school at Davidson College. He was in law school at Lebanon, and afterwards settled in Union City. On Nov. 15, 1882, he was united in marriage to Miss Calvina Rogers, daughter of Calvin Rogers, a well-known citizen here. Mr. Moore served the city as Mayor and was afterwards elected and served the county as Superintendent of Public Instruction from 1901 to 1907. He was instrumental in broadening and increasing the public school interests in the county very largely.

Three children survive the loss of a very dear parent: Mrs. Clifford Joyner, Miss Winnie Davis, Ruth and Esther. Two others died in infancy.

Mr. Moore was a man of the highest sense of honor. He was a useful citizen and in many points a man of parts. His demise leaves a sorrow-stricken family, and the tenderest condolences are extended.

Services over the remains were held in the city last Monday afternoon, conducted by Rev. Stuart, followed with burial at East View.
