Calvin Arner

One of Tionesta's prominent citizens, Calvin Arner, died at his home in Tionesta after a short illness at 7 o'clock on Friday morning.

He was a former postmaster of Tionesta and former prothonotary register and recorder of Forest county.

The deceased was one of seven children born to Lewis and Elizabeth Wolf Arner and was born in Armstrong county on October 3, 1847.

With his parent he came to Forest county in 1856 and has been prominent in Tionesta since 1869. He was engage in lumbering until 1883 when he was appointed postmaster by President Arthur, serving a term of three years. in 1887 he was elected prothonotary register and recorder of Forest county and served in that position for two terms. In 1877 he married Mary Eichenburg, who died two years ago.

Mr. Arner is survived by one son, Lewis Arner, of Warren and the following daughters' Mrs. Forrest Veckroth of Oil City; Mrs. Howard Kelly and Mrs. S.S. Haslet of Tionesta. He also leaves two sisters, Mrs. Ida M. Small of Warren and Mrs. J.B. Hagerty of Tionesta, and seven grandchildren.

Mr. Arner was a member and trustee of the Tionesta Presbyterian church and the pastor, Rev. M.J. Maelser, will conduct the funeral services at the home at 2 o'clock on Monday afternoon. Interment will be in Mount Collins cemetery.
