Minnie was the fourth of six children born to Rachel Alice Weeks Alger and Fidel Alger in Mt. Pleasant, Whiteside County, Illinois. In her early years, she lived with her family in Illinois and Iowa. When she was in her twenties, she went to live with her younger sister Kathryn "Kate" Alger Sears and her husband, William A. Sears, in Chicago, Illinois. Later, she went to live with her older sister, Emma Mary Alger Stoessiger Tallett in Clinton, Iowa. By 1930, she had become a patient in the Oak Forest Infirmary in Bremen, Cook County, Illinois. She remained a patient at the infirmary until her death on 14 Jul 1943. Minnie was buried in the same lot as her mother in the Oakland Cemetery in Clinton, Clinton County, Iowa.
