The former Dorothy Corrine Carbaugh was born March 11,1913, in New Oxford, the daughter of Francis and Mary (Glass) Carbaugh.
She graduated from New Oxford High School and earned her bachelor of arts degree from College Misericordia with certification in French and English.
On Sept. 8, 1932, she entered the Sisters of Mercy in Baltimore and took her vows on March 12, 1935.
She spent her entire teaching career – 49 years as teacher and 7 years as a principal – in the Diocese of Harrisburg. The majority of those years were spent in Harrisburg at St. Mary’s, Sylvan Heights Home and Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament; in New Cumberland at St. Theresa’s and at St. Patrick’s, Carlisle.
She also served as Assistant Director of Novices in Dallas from 1951 to 1954. She moved to Mercy Center in 1994 and was part of the ministry of prayer.
Surviving are her brother, Francis, and sisters, Regina Stevens and Agnes Klunk, all of New Oxford.
She was preceded in death by her brothers, Henry, Raphael, Christopher, Albert and Raymond; and sisters, Irene Rutter, Edna Niederer, Mary Carbaugh and Gertrude Carbaugh.
Transferal to Mercy Center will be at 1 p.m. today, with a wake service at 7 p.m. in Blessed Sacrament Chapel. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Thursday in Blessed Sacrament Chapel. Interment will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery in the Carverton section of Kingston Township.
Memorial donations may be made to the Retirement Fund, Sisters of Mercy, P.O. Box 369, Dallas, 18612.
