Harold William Wilcox was born February 28, 1908, the son of Nathan and Mary Harter Wilcox at Woolstock, a direct descendant of the first settlers in Wright County. He received his education in the Stryker School in Troy Township, Wright County. He later attended Woolstock High School.
He was united, in marriage to Osie Stryker of Eagle Grove on November 24, 1934, at Webster City. Following their marriage, he worked on a farm near Woolstock before coming to Eagle Grove, where he was employed with the Great Western Railroad. He later worked as a delivery driver for the Fisher and Eagle Dairy's in Eagle Grove. After his retirement in 1969, he became a fire truck driver for the Eagle Grove Fire Department.
The couple moved to Boone in 1979. He was a member of the United Church of Christ, Eagle Grove, and held all Chairs within the I.O.O.F. Harold Wilcox died in Nevada, Iowa, on January 25, 1991, at the age of 82 years, 10 months, and 27 days. He was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his wife; two sons, Norman, Jefferson, Md.; and John, Eagle Grove; two daughters, Mrs. Stanley (Joan) Boggs, Jewell; and Mrs. Richard (Kathleen) Clarke of Indianola; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two brothers, Kenneth, Eagle Grove; and Richard, Clearwater, Fla.; two sisters, Mrs. William (Clara) Wade, Colfax; and Mrs. Nickolas (Marcella) Bauman of Eagle Grove.
Funeral services were held at the Kastler-Babcock Funeral Home, in Eagle Grove on Janury 30. The Rev. Kevin Cassiday-Maloney officiated at the 2 p.m. services, and burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery, Eagle Grove.
